Since its founding in 1946, Dublin Rains Cricket Association has enjoyed an excellent and unique reputation in Irish cricket. Throughout the decades, the club has been bringing together people from all over the world by enabling them to engage in their favourite sport.

Our reputation is derived from a high commitment to the game and each and every single player adheres to our four main values - Respect, Collaboration, Diversity and Humor.

Showing fairness and being respectful towards our opponents and ourselves is of the utmost importance to us.

COLLABORATION

Alone we are nothing - we are in this together. By cooperating, we are capable of so much more.

DIVERSITY

We welcome people from all over the world, no matter the background, gender and age.

HUMOR

For us, Cricket is a way to escape our everyday lives. We are all about having fun!

Our Story

After the second World War, countries were torn apart and separated. Years of suffering have taken a toll on people, especially in Europe. Even though Ireland remained largely unharmed during the war, fear and destruction across Europe also influenced the Irish population. The Irish were devastated by daily news of the people suffering caused by the war. Also, people feared about their own future as the result of the war was vague. To bring positivity in people’s life and distract them from all their worries, our founding fathers started organising cricket games for students at UCD. After the world war and seeing the positive impacts they could have by bringing people together, they decided to continue with their journey and find the Dublin Rains Cricket Association. Due to the frequent precipitation on the island, the team had to play a lot in rainy conditions, hence the name Dublin Rains.

Over the next decades, the DRCA established itself as a major university sports team in Ireland. Moreover, the team put high emphasis on providing a platform for international students coming to Ireland, enabling them to connect with not only each other, but also local Irish students. Today, the club is known for its diversity, passion and excellence across Ireland.
